When an oncidium orchid is ready to bloom, it produces a flower spike (called an "inflorescence") from the base of the pseudobulb. The inflorescence can be either branched or unbranched, and can bear anywhere from a few flowers to hundreds.
The flowers of oncidiums are typically small and brightly colored, with a distinctive shape that sets them apart from other types of Orchids. One of the most popular oncidiums is Aliceara Stellar 'Hoku', which has large, showy blooms in shades of red, purple and pink.
