Hoya skinneriana 'Dee’s Big One' Splash is an evergreen, epiphytic, climbing plant that produces large, fragrant flowers. The flowers have a central corona with 5-9 lobes and a diameter of 4-6 cm. They are white with pinkish- purple streaks and spots on the inner surface of the corona. The petals are narrow and lanceolate with acute apices. The stamens are inserted in the corona and are slightly longer than the petals. The ovary is inferior with 3 locules. The fruit is a reddish-orange berry 3-5 cm in diameter.
This hoya is native to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Yunnan province in China. It was first described by August Davila Padilla in 1885.
The specific epithet skinneriana is named after British botanist Edward Turner Skinner (1851-1928), who was the director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew from 1904 to 1927.
Hoya skinneriana is a fast-growing plant that can reach up to 20 feet in length. It prefers shady, humid conditions and well-drained soil. It is tolerant of drought and frost.
This hoya can be propagated by stem cuttings or by seed. The stem cuttings should be taken from young shoots that have not yet flowered. They should be rooted in moist, well-drained soil. The seeds should be sown in moist, well-drained soil and kept at a temperature of 21-24 degrees Celsius which converts to 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit.
